Tim McDonnell Wins: Dydrene 400 @ Dover!

We move across the east coast to Delaware before our final trip of the regular season down south. Drivers like Ken Pettit are desperate to gain any momentum before a complete collapse, while Matt Raboin and Rick Jackson hope to pull off a miracle rebound run to the Championship.

Pole-sitter Ryan Heuser, Tim McDonnell, Adam Crapser, Rick Jackson and John Battista took turns leading in the early going. We had 90 lead changes in total, with about a third of them occurring during the first green flag run.

Seemingly all of the points contenders took their chance at gaining five bonus points early. Scott Jackson and Zach Michael looked to stay up front and out of the carnage to clinch their spot oe race early, while Craig Lee remained in the fight for his life.

Devastating occurred for Craig Lee on lap 131, after he and Matthew Dominique made contact off of turn 2. Craig Lee and Mark Guthrie hit the inside wall hard, with Matthew Dominique taping the right side of the #101 machine. Craig limped to 37th and 75 points out of the chase. Dominique fought back to finish 11th.

Some of the drivers starting mid-pack fought hard for the lead near the mid-race point. Bill Werkheiser, Ben Geer and John Tharp all took turns up front, while Matthew Dominique flew past the field to race with the leaders once more.

From lap 153 to lap 268, Rick Jackson and Jimmie Stevens had flew past the field and tandemed their way ahead by a full 12 seconds. Ironically, Stevens sped on pit road during their green flag pit stop, came in for his penalty, and ended up drafting with Rick again one lap down. He would never get it back, finishing 28th. Rick would lead a race-high 134 laps.

Tony Pizzaro, Adam Crapser and Johnny Reed Foley all led 9+ laps in the event, looking to defeat Rick Jackson who seemingly had the most dominant car of the race. In the end of every stint, the #44 machine seemed to find his way up front once again.

Eerie confusion led to a horrifying set of circumstances after Tony Long blew up to bring out the caution with 51 laps to go. After the restart, Jonathan Skrabacz spun off of turn 4. John Battista, Zakk Miller, Tim McDonnell, Ben Geer and Rob Scarberry all dove toward pit road to avoid the accident and fell to the back of the field for the next restart. Three laps later, leader Rick Jackson was forced to come in to replace a loose lug nut. They would all have to come from behind with 42 laps left.

William Perry restarted in the lead, though before long it was John Tharp and Alex Crapser trying to end their non-restrictor plate winless-droughts. Rick Jackson flew through the field and was already inside the top-10 to see Alex and Adam Crapser race for the victory.

Alex held the lead until lap 384, when Scott Jackson and Tim McDonnell flew by for the top-2 spots. One lap later, Tim would carry the lead off of turn #2. He would hold off Dave Butterworth and Dave Miller with ease, but Rick Jackson was knocking at the door with four laps left.

With three and two laps to go, Rick Jackson made two valiant efforts to make a move on the inside, while Tim cut him off both times. Tim barely cut across his nose one final time on the final lap heading to the checkers, winning his third race and easily clinching his Chase spot in the 2020 season to defend his Championship. Congrats to Tim, crew chief Yogi Arnoux, and the entire Top Geer Motorsports team for an excellent victory!
