In the wake of the All-Star event, the first of two All-Star Open's are about to commence. Ken Pettit is the easy favorite to win the race and advance to the main event, but all it will take is another car with a 40-lap dream run to become victorious.
Race Results
Bill Werkheiser won the pole and got off to a 1 car-length advantage over the field. ken Pettit used his outside lane momentum to get a run on the backstretch and take the top spot entering lap #2, as they race four-wide behind.
Tex Perry found himself in the mix before long, passing Dave Butterworth and Philip Parker for third position. Bill took the lead back on lap 6, making the same move Ken did five laps prior.
Ken took the lead back on lap 11, going side-by-side for a half-a-lap before exiting turn 2 with the advantage. Tex would follow for second, leaving these three battling it out amongst themselves for the rest of the event.
Bill took the second position back one lap later and found himself up front by the halfway mark. He went on to lead every lap until the white flag, where the #6 and #8 battled side-by-side for the only transfer spot.
Ken's car had the bottom momentum in turn 1, and was easily able to clear Bill and cross the finish line victorious to advance to the All-Star Race. Congrats to Ken, crew chief Slim Horton, and the entire Race-2-Win Motorsports team for an excellent victory!
