High Octane Racing: Raines Out, Carroll In
When Yodog Racing got bought out by the Allstate company, rumor had it that Brandon Raines would not stay past the 2021 season. In eight events so far, six of them resulted in a 35th place finish or worse. His teammates have not faired significantly better for the new-found High Octane Racing. Despite the fact, Raines and crew chief Filip Butcher have been released from the organization. The greatest highlight of his Extravaganza career was arguably his 6th place finish in the 2019 Daytona 500. Since then, slow engines and lackluster finishes have been his downfall in the premier series. There is no word on his future plans as of yet.
Mike Carroll will take over the third Allstate car starting this week at Michigan. He will retain his familiar Pontiac decals and bring over his own equipment and crew members. High Octane plans to use the #86's old cars to upscale the Dan Johnston and Dave Butterworth teams for the future. Carroll nabbed a top-5 in his first career race at Talladega in the fall of 2019. He also came a few laps from winning Lime Rock Park in the summer of 2020. The team is currently 34th in owners points, locked in to Michigan by a mere 18 points.
