45 teams roll off the truck with a clean slate! Ronaldo Scott, Nigel Ramasawmy, Rhamondre Diggs and Larry Sheldrake enter their first Daytona 500 with unknowns as prevalent to them as Half-Dollar Motley in 1960. Motley would win the inaugural event, holding off Buddy Griswald and Father Mitchell, while proving the same Beach Course superstars could dominate the Speedways. Modern-man Ryan Heuser goes for his second-straight trophy, looking for four-in-a-row overall for the first time since Roscoe Riker in 1989. Can he pull of the feat? Speedweeks dominators Jimmie Stevens, Logan Sheets and John Battista hope to de-throne the "Rocket Man" early.

Race Recap

Ryan Heuser took 18-years to win his first Daytona 500! Ziggy Moonglow took 18 hours to recover from abdominal agony, ready to win after his morbid Daytona Duel crash. The green flag waves with the #138 Quick-Silver Chevrolet on the point, getting passed by John Battista on the onset of lap-2. He and Ken Pettit would dominate early, setting the pace as Steve Inkman, Ronaldo Scott and Nigel Ramasawmy lose the lead group. Ziggy Moonglow, Adam Crapser, Timothy McDonnell and Steven Spears would carousel the top-spot before the #8 Bob Marley Chevrolet took it outright on lap-18.

Ken Pettit puts a stranglehold on the field! He'd lead through lap-30, leaving the the top-4 in a single-file freight-train behind. Towards the rear, Mike Carroll, Rhamondre Diggs, Larry Sheldrake and John Tharp lose the draft, with all three Toyota's struggling to find speed. Champion Johnny Reed Foley was also restrained to the rear, with half of the 38 cars in the lead group loosing grip. Up front, Pettit, Logan Sheets, Adam Crapser. Ryan Heuser, Alex Crapser, Trae Larkin, Ziggy Moonglow, Michael Henson, Steven Spears and Chauncey Redmond Jr. occupied the top-10 through lap-50.

Steve Inkman suffers a morbid blow! The #57 Bran Flakes Dodge pulverizes his camshaft, dropping more oil than Paula Deen on a frying pan. Fortunately all of his 0-w20 landed on the apron, keeping the field at speed for green flag stops. Craig Lee, Dakota Wilkins, Tony Pizzaro, Dalton Lucas, Timothy McDonnell. Geno Sphere, Matt Raboin, Jeremy Hebel, Rick Jackson and Zakk Miller came in lap-50, hoping to make a three-stop race. The #44 Crown Royal Chevrolet entered late, getting clipped by Mark Heron and spinning through the access road. Amazingly, nobody hit him, recovering to one of the lead groups after the cycle.

Alex Crapser, Steven Spears. Michael Henson, Molemar Diggs, Chauncey Redmond Jr., Trae Larkin, Markell Murphy, Donald Stewart, John Battista and Johnny Reed Foley were the last to come in. Neither would exit into the lead draft, as the early pitters sailed in to the stratosphere! Or so they thought. Craig Lee, Adam Crapser, Alex Crapser, Alan Nesfeder, Tony Pizzaro, Zach Michael, Logan Sheets and Ken Pettit would be captured by a 15-car cavalcade led by Timothy McDonnell and Matt Raboin. An ensuing 8-car syndicate led by Ryan Heuser caught the big group on lap-80, leaving 30-cars in contention just 200-miles in.

37 drivers remain in contention by the halfway point! 44 cars are still on the track, averaging 210+ as Quantum Racing teammates Matt Raboin and Logan Sheets set the pace. Ryan Heuser and Chauncey Redmond Jr. mounted a charge from mid-pack, earning Heuser the Halfway Bacon Bonus on lap-100. He would lead the field to the second round of fuel stops. Matt Raboin came in first on lap-101. John Battista and Markell Murphy extended their stint through lap-106, with the #47 Team Danger Zone Mustang employing the same mileage that won him the Coke Zero 400 in July.

Up front, Ryan Heuser, Chauncey Redmond Jr. and Steven Spears inherited a four-second advantage on the field, hoping to catch lapped traffic and draft their way to the promised-land! It was not to be. The #138 lost the lead to Redmond on lap-110, blessing the 18-car cavalcade from behind. Ken Pettit, Craig Lee and Matt Raboin led the charge, with the #8 Bob Marley Chevrolet taking the lead outright on the 80-to-go mark. Top-contenders Jeremy Hebel, Zach Michael, Alex Crapser, Donald Stewart, Trae Larkin, Timothy McDonnell, Adam Crapser, Bink Lucas and Alan Nes ... Read more »
