A weekend that started with an array of fortitude and lack of attrition during the practice sessions found it's momentum onto race day. 40 cars would finish the race, despite only three caution flags and a 250+ lap run in the middle. Dave Miller starts on the pole.

It took no time for Vegas winner John Battista to score the top position. There were numerous lead changes in the early going, with Alan Nesfeder and Tim McDonnell exchanging bonus points. Battista and McDonnell are the only two drivers to lead all four races.

Craig Lee and Adam Crapser joined the fray and brought an element of disparity to the front pack. Johnny Reed Foley was also in view of the lead but never earned his bonus point throughout the event.

The first caution was brought out by a blown tire on the #30 Zakk Miller machine. He hit the outside wall entering turn 1, and slid down the track into Scott Deutsch. Teammate Steven Spears spun out in the aftermath.

Ken Pettit pulled off a miraculous feat by jumping the restart and forcing himself back on the lead lap after an early incident. He found his way to the front quickly, battling Ryan Heuser, who went from last to first in less than 100 laps. Dakota Wilkins and William Perry brought out the next caution flag after a spin on the backstretch.

Michael Henson and David Butterworth were the two drivers that endured engine failures during the middle portion of the event. We would go green for over 200 laps during this period. It began with six drivers at the top of the heap, with Scott Jackson and Tim McDonnell dropping back after the first green flag stop.

John Tharp, John Battista, Zach Michael and Ryan Heuser were the success stories on pit speed, and they remained up front for the second green flag run. By the end of the event, we would average a lead change every 7.5 laps, with several occurring during this part of the race. Tharp would eventually fall to the handling gremlins.

As one marijuana car faltered, another came to life. Ken Pettit had the fastest car in the field, flying through lapped traffic and caught the top-2. Pettit and Heuser would eventually tie in most laps led with 91, with Battista hot on their tails.

It was the same story with less than 100 laps to go. After the final green flag stop, Dave Miller came from 7 seconds back to miraculously take the lead on lap 292. He would lead most of the remaining laps in the run before a debris caution with 57 laps left bunched up the field for a final shootout.

Zach Michael and John Battista were positions 1 and 2 on the green flag. It would stay that way for several laps before a daring three-wide move on the bottom pulled the Wendy's machine ahead. Despite multiple maneuvers to the inside lane, Michael could not pull off any momentum on the bottom to grab the spot back.

The #20 was mired between two lapped cars until five laps to go, gaining a tenth every laps until the checkered. The dirty air proved to be the victimization, getting to the bumper with 2 laps to go but unable to make any attampt at a pass. Battista sailed to a car-length victory, winning his second-straight event for the first time in his Extravaganza career. Congrats to Battista, crew chief Lew Money, and the entire Lucas Racing crew for an excellent victory! ... Read more »
